Female image -- outward physical appearance -- plays an enormous role in contemporary culture, one obsessed with youth, beauty, and celebrity. A culture that objectifies women and uses sex to sell products. Pervasive advertising shapes our notions of female beauty. The idealized female image is mostly focused on weight --the Barbie doll look. If a real woman had her proportions, her neck couldn't hold up her head and she’d have room for only ½ a liver. Both men and women are often set up for unrealistic expectations and reality may pale by comparison.

The subject of female image is a theme I have returned to over many years.
